Sheryl L. Saavedra devotes her practice to helping clients through various issues of Family Law including divorce, custody, child support, adoptions, abuse and neglect and Guardian ad Litem representation. She obtained her law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1994.  She has concentrated over 22 years of law practice primarily to the area of Family Law.  Sheryl recently joined Little, Gilman-Tepper & Batley after a successful private practice in Roswell, NM as the owner of her own law firm.   In addition to having substantial legal experience in the abuse and neglect system, Sheryl served as the Chaves County Guardian ad Litem representing over 100 children in foster care for the years 2015 and 2016.

Representing adults and children in family law cases has always been Sheryl’s passion.  In law school, Sheryl clerked for the Honorable Anne Kass and completed her clinic work at the Peanut Butter and Jelly program for incarcerated parents.  After over 22 years of practicing primarily family law, Sheryl has the innate ability to review a client file and map out of the most strategic game plan for that particular client under those particular circumstances.  The art of developing a game plan for a client from beginning to end and adjusting along the way helps Sheryl to garner the best results for her clients.  While settling or mediating a case in the client’s best interest is always an option, Sheryl’s tenacity as a litigator has earned her the reputation of being an attorney who will not hesitant to fight for her clients.

Sheryl brings that same vigilance she exercises in divorce and custody cases, to her work as a Guardian ad Litem for children.   In her first year as the Chaves County Guardian as Litem for Children’s Court, Sheryl was nominated for a New Mexico Welfare and Juvenile Justice Excellence Award at the Children’s Law Institute.  She is a staunch advocate for children in a variety of family law related cases including divorces, custody, adoptions and guardianships, but she has a particular affinity for representing children in the abuse and neglect system.  She is able to work with both the children and their parents to develop a plan that places the child’s needs as paramount while still seeking a viable solution to reintegrate the family, where appropriate.

Sheryl guided me through a very challenging divorce case involving, estate, personal assets, military and disability retirements and issues that posed a threat to my children's well-being. She aided me to negotiate an extremely strong and detailed parenting plan outlining serious consequences for custodial violations. Sheryl and her "Class A" staff always produced a seamless client service eliminating frustration, thus creating such a positive working relationship. I am remarkably fortunate that I have the best attorney on my side!
